Laquel est une pomme que tu as choisis
Laquel est une pomme as-tu choisis
what are the differences in that two sentences.will you please help me? merci beaucoup
In English there may be a difference in meaning between "You went out even though I wasn't ok with it" and "You went out even though I'm not ok with it"; I might have changed my mind in the interim: "You went out even though I wasn't ok with it [, but now I am ok with it]." Wouldn't this second sense require the imperfect rather than the subjunctive in modern French: "... bien que je n'étais pas d'accord"?
Pour quoi "les Mienes" what if the speaker is masculine
In 1990 L'Académie française produced a document changing the spelling of certain verbs, and I quote:
5. Verbes en -eler et -eter L’emploi du e accent grave pour noter le son « e ouvert » dans les verbes en -eler et en -eter est étendu à tous les verbes de ce type. On conjugue donc, sur le modèle de peler et d’acheter : elle ruissèle, elle ruissèlera, j’époussète, j’étiquète, il époussètera, il étiquètera. On ne fait exception que pour appeler (et rappeler) et jeter (et les verbes de sa famille), dont les formes sont les mieux stabilisées dans l’usage.
Should this be reflected on this site?
Please can you explain why 'Rester" is used in this answer to a test question rather than simply using the future of to sit and, secondly why not 'il finisse' after jusqu'à ce que?
How would you say "Ben will sit at that desk until after he's finished his homework." ?Ben restera assis à ce bureau jusqu'à ce qu'il ait fini ses devoirs.(I did post this earlier in the week but have not had a response. many thanks)
Bonjour,
In the lesson you give the following example:
Mes amis sont venus et tous étaient contents.
But if we change the gender, are these three examples correct?
Mes amies sont venues et toutes étaient contentes. (all of them were happy)
Mes amies sont venues et elles étaient toutes contentes. (they were all happy)
Mes amies sont venues et elles étaient tout contentes. (they were very happy)
Thanks for all your work on this subject. This lesson is long but it's the most comprehensive explanation I've found.
John
I understand that the present indicative is preferred over the near future and future tenses where feasible. What yanks my chain a bit is that this rule (or usage) is not made explicit until you answer the question wrong. As I think about, I use the present indicative in French wherever possible and observe that French speakers avoid the future tense like the La Peste. Tout est bien qui finit bien....
Since the active voice was imperfect (Marie caressait son chat), why is not the passive voice also imperfect? I had chosen Son chat était caressé par Marie-
Hello I have a question.
Why in French some colors are plural?
Lesson says only the 1st day of the month is cardinal, my test asked for the translation of May 1, I said le 1er mai, as per lesson...you said it was wrong and should have been le 1 mai...contradictory lessons!
