Greetings!
Could you please help me understand the meaning of this phrase:
"le devoir de mémoire de la Shoah"
In addition, I'm wondering why "mémoire" does not require an article in this context.
Thank you!
Hi,
“les descendants” is a noun, so should the translation be more along the lines of “the French-Canadian descendants of those original colonists”?
Merci beaucoup. Ce texte est très intéressant! Merci d’avoir partagé.
In the sentence starting, "L'année dernière, j'ai découvert . . .," isn't "last year" referring to a unit of time that happened once, so wouldn't "l'an dernier" be correct? I thought "l'année dernière" would indicate that the discovery happened multiple times over the course of a year. Please advise.
- Je n'ai jamais eu un bon sens de l'orientation.
why not just
Je n'ai jamais eu un bon sens d'orientation
My question is about a quiz question in this unit: "J'ai décidé d'apprendre à jouer du piano cette année." How do you know it's "apprendre *à* jouer" instead of "apprendre *de* jouer," for example. I think that French verbs differ in this respect, but I haven't seen any systematic explanation of it, and I don't even know how to talk about it in a way that could make internet search productive. Do you have any teaching materials about this, or can you help me to understand it better? Thanks in advance.
One example given is: Tu as vraiment des yeux de lynx !
You really have eagle eyes!Isn't "lynx" a "lynx" in English (and eagle is "aigle")? Or is "yeux de lynx" an expression that means very sharp eyesight, similar to "eagle eyes"?Find your French level for FREE
