I think the point is that animateur has many other meanings in French, it doesn't just mean animator, but also guide, leader etc. I haven't read the exercise, though, so perhaps it was a bunch of guys from Walt Disney.

I have translated ‘animateurs’ as co-ordinators / organisers (of the School Skiing Trip activities )
