ville vs village

Somehow, I always translate "city" to "ville" and "town" to village.  Help me to think about this differently, if you can!

No - mostly ‘a town’ will be ‘une ville’, but the distinction between ‘un village’ et ‘une ville’ is, well, it depends :

Une ville = a city, even if it’s smaller (a town)

Un village = a village
