why is 'épargner' wrong for 'economiser' - does it not mean 'to save' (as in money)?

Bonjour Martin,

In this context, 'épargner' si considered a bit too "technical" if I may say so. It sounds very 'strange' to a native speaker to use 'épargner' in this context.
