Translation of thus

Translation of thus

In the translation of thus in the sentence, "Thus, did you know that he was the one who'd popularised the women's tuxedo, which had revolutionised the fashion industry in the 1960s?", the acceptable choices given are 'de fait' and 'ainsi'. I agree with the latter for thus; however, my dictionary translates 'de fait' as 'actually' or 'in fact' and not 'thus'. Perhaps 'in fact' would have been more appropriate than 'thus' in this context.

Bonjour Frank,

Thank you for pointing this out! After discussing this really interesting topic, we've added a clear hint so that there aren't any ambiguity as to which French expression to use.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

There rarely is a one-to-one relationship between pronouns in English and French. You pick what conveys a compatible flavor. Here are some options to choose from:

ainsi, par conséquent, de (ce) fait, donc, dès lors, etc.
