Tout à fait vs absolument

Why can’t i say ‘tout à fait!’ For ‘absolutely’ ?

Bonjour Matthew,

"Tout à fait" is synonym with "entièrement / complètement". It can be used instead of "absolument":

A-t-elle raison ? - Tout à fait / Absolument ! Is she right? - Absolutely (entirely-completely)!

However, in this context, it would not work as it implies the same meaning as "of course":

Tu veux du vin ? - Absolument ! = Do you fancy some wine? - Absolutely / Of course!

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
