The answers given use the different expressions 'afin de' or 'pour' so the only possibilities for 'to make the most of it' in this context are -

afin d'en profiter au maximum

afin de bien en profiter

pour bien en profiter

pour en profiter au maximum

My question is, why does the adverb have to be placed before en in the example using bien vs it can be after profiter when using the adverb au maximum?

It is just the way it is, doesn't sound right to a French person, no rhyme or reason....
