image vs dessin

I used the word "dessin" and it was marked incorrect and replaced with image. In the same text, in the next sentence, I used "image" and it was marked incorrect and replaced with dessin!

Hi Ann,

The first sentence is -

We are drawing Easter pictures = Nous dessinons des images de Pâques 

Here is the word picture is more general and means a 'reproduction visuelle d'un objet réel'.

In the second example -

I colour the pretty drawings = je colorie les jolis dessins

un dessin is something you have drawn (or that someone else has drawn).

 

So the words used in each example are correct.

le dessin -- drawing
l'image -- picture, i.e., what is showin in a drawing.
