Il est v c’est

I am struggling to understand when to use c’est rather than il/elle est despite having read through the suggested lesson. Can someone please help?

Hi Vivienne,

C'est mon petit-fils = He is my grandson

It is because in French , you cannot say -

Il est mon petit fils

Il est mon cousin

Elle est ma sœur

it has to be 'C'est mon, ma ...' when followed by a noun.

C'est vs il/elle est: Saying it is/she is/he is

Hope this helps!

i think you use c'est instead of il est if it is followed by a noun?
