I'm sorry, but I still don't quite understand the role of "en" in the sentence referred to. Is it a pronoun to refer to 'Les enquêteurs' ?

Hi Andrea, I guess your question is in regard to this sentence:

Les enquêteurs en ont déduit que c'était l'arme du crime. -- The investigators concluded that it was the murder weapon.

The phrase is: déduire qqc de -- to conclude something (from). The pronoun "en" refers to "de". It strictly means: The investigators concluded from it that it was the murder weapon.
