"we were not supposed to be able to come"- I keep getting this kind of error- the first is correct, the second is what I tend to do- not sure if it is passive voice that I am missing, or if there are times when what I think is a verb is being treated like an adjective. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.....
My on-line instructor - a native French speaker from Normandy - says that it is totally incorrect to drop the "du" when using "ni..ni". I had learned in one of your lessons that I should keep the articles le, la, les but drop "du". Which one of you is correct?
I don't know what party favours are, let alone what the French word for them might be.
Why were these word provided:
"chestnut", "to roast", "fireplace", "nutmeg".

The text uses the infinitive for "je passerai la soiree a parler ..." and the gerund for "Geraldine s'ennuiera en ecoutant ..." Why is the infinitive used in the first part of the sentence and the gerund used in the second part?
