past participle or adjective?Note that the past participle agrees with the subject of the auxiliary être.
The above is quoted from the lesson. I wonder if the "past participle" now serves as an adjective and that is the reason for the agreement, not the use of the verb être per se. If that is the case it seems to me to be a much easier way to understand the construction of the passive voice.
The explanation seems to focus on the verb être with the use of bold for être rather than the subject agreement, so it's easy to get confused. (I tried to use "bold" here but it didn't work, so pls. see statement as it appears in the lesson.)
Going back to an earlier lesson which had this sentence in a quiz question:
Je vais être dévoré par les morts vivants
I went round and round trying to figure out what part of speech dévoré was. I finally decided it was being used as an adjective (but I admit I am not !00% sure). Hence my question above.
see that question below (not from me)
Conjugate verbs in the near future in French using aller + infinitive (Le Futur Proche)
See below. The use of être plus the past participle should be discussed/explained...just say'n :))Non ! Je ________ dévoré par les morts vivants !No! I'm going to be devoured by the living dead!HINT: Conjugate être (to be) in Le Futur Proche
I thought the marking was a bit odd as I have underlined the words I got wrong and one was a verb avertir I used in lieu of prèvenir?
- Bonjour Sandra ! J'ai besoin de ton aide. - Qu'est-ce que je peux faire pour toi ? - Je dois partir(quitter) à midi parce que ma fille est malade. Est-ce que tu peux prévenir(avertir) Jean-Pierre ? - Pas de problème ! J'ai une réunion avec lui avant mon déjeuner avec Marielle. - Merci beaucoup ! Lucie a de la fièvre et je suis un peu inquiète. - Je comprends. À demain !The above is quoted from the lesson. Bonjour Madame !
Thank you for your support and Yes, I will surely co-operate with your French team with my queries in future and provide you sufficient time to answer my problems.
The example “ Vive le temps, vive le temps, vive le temps d’hiver doesn’t relate to en, l’ , au as being taught in the lesson. It might be a special, specific case. Thank you for your feedback.
Merci bien et bonne journée !
Bonjour Madame Cécile !
I am unable to understand the concepts behind the following sentences.
(A)Ce portable, appartient-il à ce monsieur?
The answers I thought were->
1.Oui, c’est le sien. 2. Oui, il est à lui. 3.Oui, il appartient à lui.
Are they correct ? Can one say- Oui, il est le sien ?
(B)Tout le monde n’a pas les mêmes goûts, chacun a __________
Here, the correct answer will be les siens. Why cannot it be le sien ?
Merci beaucoup et bonne journée!
not necessarily overly friendly, would one still use the subjunctive?
Suggestions please, for the best way to find the vocabulary given at the start of each writing exercise and dictée. I use the WordReference app and the unabridged Collins Robert dictionary, but frequently find that phrases in particular are difficult or impossible to find, which makes the vocab list unhelpful. Thanks.
In the quiz I got 'Elle trouve ________ beau'. I answered: que t'es. However, this was counted wrong and instead it should be que tu es. Would my contraction be incorrect?
