I encountered this question in a quiz and got it wrong:
"Manon aime une autre personne." means:
Maybe I'm splitting hairs here, or the translation isn't quite literal in English, but the correct answer "Manon loves another person" seems to imply something different. I read this as "Manon loves [a different] person." To say that Manon loves another person implies to me that she may love more than one person. For example, if I said "J'ai une autre voiture," am I saying I have 2 cars now, or that I have a different/new car?
These are the examples given:
- parler : nous parlons (we are talking) -> je parlais
- finir : nous finissons (we are finishing) -> je finissais
- faire : nous faisons (we are doing) -> je faisais
- prendre : nous prenons (we are taking) -> je prenais
All the verbs have the same ending despite the subject. Perhaps I'm missing something
Should “demanda” be capitalised (“Demanda”) as it begins a new sentence?
I have a question. In a writing execrise, it requires translate the sentence: My new school bag is blue and yellow. I understand it's a new brand school bag that hasn't be used before, so I wrote: Mon cartable neuf est bleu et jaune. But it marks wrong and the correct one is: Mon nouveau cartable est ...
Why is that and is my sentence correct?
In French, does à cette époque trigger the passé composé or the imparfait? I can´t remember. I was thinking it would trigger passé composé because, ´at that time', in my mind is a specific time frame. Or, is this triggering imparfait because it´s setting a scene? In this example, it said...'j'étais plein de doutes à cette époque. I´m guessing this is a reoccurring idea around that time.? My initial guess was j'étais because it sounded better in my ear, but I changed it to passé composé due to the à cette époque. Thoughts?
In regards to the sentence: Ils quittent leur travail à 19h, is the following identification of different articles of speech correct:
(subject)Ils (verb)quittent (indirect object pronoun)leur (direct object)travail (preposition)à (??)19h
I am not sure what article of speech does "19h" come under?
