Factors that went into Lawless French classifying the Conditional as a mood in it's own right. After all this time learning French l decide today to develop an English/French go-to chart for translation purposes.
All of a sudden, the conditional tense sitting in the indicative mood in my little Bescherelle conjugaison book looks out of place. Why is it there, in a mood that expresses facts and certainties, things that definitely happened?
A little research in Bescherelle, on the web and here surface the fact that the Conditional in French is often classified as a mood unto itself (as in Lawless French) due to it's hypothetical expressions; and that more often, today, "pour des raisons de forme et de sens"(Bescherelle p.140), as a tense under the imperative. An example given for the latter is that "aurait" , conditional present, equates the future present transposed into the past. So interesting! I had not seen this before.
I wonder, what went into Lawless French's decision to classify the Conditional as a mood apart instead of as under the Indicative mood? Either works , l am just curious.

Quelle artiste!
I am a little unclear as to what the definition of Indirect Speech is especially as it applies to the examples given in the lesson and in the use of verbs such as, 'se demander' and 'savoir'.
How is this Indirect Speech:
Je me demande si tu viens ou pas. ?
What I do understand is that in cases where 'whether = if', then 'si + Mode Indicatif' is applied.
The way I usually work it out in my mind is if the sentence is expressing the idea of 'regardless of which' or 'whether or not' than 'Que + Le Subjunctif' is used.
hi,
when you guys have this sentence as an example un riche comme cresus homme it was marked wrong is that because it should have something else describing the riche? Also as i'm searching to understand this should i treat these as like the similie and metaphors as we do in english?

Good evening,
Is there a way of moving multiple items(lessons) from one notebook to another? Once I have completed tests on certain subjects, I want to move them out of my main notebook and into a different one, so I'm only tested on the things I really need to learn quickly. Is there a way of doing of this without going into each individual lesson and moving it from there?
Many thanks,
Emma
I get really confused with knowing when to use expressions such as "à laquelle". I've read the lesson however for this text for example, why can't I use "que" as well as "à laquelle" for - 'une surprise à laquelle je ne m'attendais pas du tout' ?
why is fringues not okay instead of vetements? Why is les toilettes not correct in this sentence " Oui, bien sûr, il est dans la salle de bains, sous le lavabo."?
Can we use the expression il y a in this sentence, insted of "où est"? Bastien, tu sais où est le panier à linge ?
position of prochain relative to nouns
Hi,
Is there a reason why is there no liaison of the words ´pas envié in the final sentence of this exercise-´Enfin, j’adore les bonbons mais je n’ai pas envie de partager’?
In the listening exercises the following is used
"ils prennent leur rôle de grandes-parents très au sérieux". Why "très au sérieux" and not "très sérieux"?
Thank you
