Hi Wendy,
As I understand it, British English is used in the lessons and quizzes on this site.
The lesson mentions "pan" for American English information only.
Let's however see if a moderator agrees with my understanding.

Tin was offered for British English, pan for US English which is also used for Aussie English, Kiwi English,Canadian English, Scottish English.
Because some of us are in North America. I'm in Canada, and we use a mixture of British and US usages. (Also, it looks to me like the company is headquartered in Pennsylvania.)
