Bonjour,
The online Collins dictionary gives the translation of 'être inconnu(e) à qn' meaning to be unknown to someone, which I used in the response. The correction provided for 'inconnues de' and this was confirmed by my big Collins Robert dictionary. Could anyone shed some light on the difference between à or de in this context please?
Merci beaucoup :-)
Bonjour ! One of the A2 level exercises asks which would be the correct beginning for the phrase « [X] a changé entre nous ? » and I'm having a hard time figuring out why the only acceptable answer here is the one with the full « qui ». I thought in front of the vowels we were supposed to make an elision in order to ease the pronunciation. Could you please help? Merci !
While I understand that the phrase: “Où mets-je mes chaussures d'habitude ?” is technically correct for the exersise, I am having a hard time mentally processing when I would ever use first-person inversion. To me, it sounds incredibly snooty and stuck up and something I would never want to suggest that I am.
Is there a situation I would be inclined to use the first person inversion for asking a question, and why?
Im wondering what the d represents in d'être. Also, to 'be late' is it always 'metre en retard' or can I say "je suis en retard"
Merci!
The suggested answer of this sentence is 'C'est la plus jeune sœur de ma mère'.
Is it also correct to translate it as ' Elle est la sœur la plus jeune de ma mère' ?
Why is it Marc l'a regardée and not Marc l'a regardé. Surely the latter is feminine? Thankyou
Can we say that if même precedes the noun, it means "same" and if it comes after the noun, it means "very/itself"?
I read somewhere else that you always put the most important first, ie the thing or person that is missed, ie Jean manque à ma sœur ; my sister misses Jean , Jean lui manque ; she misses Jean. Is that a guide worth following?
