I was asked to write "she's going to hurt him" and I answered "Elle va faire mal a lui" (accent on a). This was scored incorrect, with a proper answer of "Elle va lui faire du mal". Given that there was no way for me to know whether whe was going to hurt him physically or emotionally, I believe my answer was correct. If not, why?

This question comes up again. In the corrections, "les maisons surmontées par une grande église" and "les maisons surmontées d'une grande église" are both suggested. I thought "par" was closer to "by" in English and "de" was closer to "with." Is this wrong?
Listening to the pronunciation of verbs like appeler in the first and second person plural, I don’t here any separate syllable in the verb where the single “l” is. , as in vous appelez, or nous appelons. It’s as if the “e” is simply omitted and the word is pronounced like “ applez” and “applons”. This is much more obvious with the female voice than the male. Could you clarify the pronunciation please?
Could the translation for "...sans ostracisme..." be "without exclusion"?
