When to use the definite article and when not

The recommended translation of 'you are an animal lover and a camping enthusiast' is 'Vous êtes un amoureux des bêtes et un passionné de camping'. Is it possible to explain why 'bêtes' is preceded by a definite article and 'camping' isn't?

Bonjour Tom,

https://www.wordreference.com/fren/passionn%C3%A9

If you have a look at the link above you will see a similar example of usage "passionée (de qch)"

with an example in English.

The English follows exactly your sample text  --  so it looks to me as being a standard format as written in the link.

To be an animal lover to my mind is not quite the same meaning as being a passionate camper.

Hope this helps.

Bonne journée

Jim
