Using merci de.....

I'm reading an example using merci de with an action already done. It says to use Merci de + [Infinitif Passé] and gives the following example:

C'était très difficile, merci de m'avoir aidée.

Please, can you explain why aidée is feminine?

Hi Jack,

In that sentence, you would use ‘aidée’ (which refers to ‘me’) only if it was a woman speaking . If it was a man it would be ‘aidé .

Thanks Cécile, but I thought that, if the gender was not apparent, the masculine form was used.
