For the very first sentence, I used "formidable" instead of "excellent" and this was not accepted as correct. Is this word out of fashion? Or just used in certain contexts? Thanks for your help!
Use of "formidable?"

Hi Lorie,
It is a question of context.
"Excellent" takes a sense of parfait, beau, bon -- more fitting of a romantic situation.
"Formidable" takes a sense of extraordinaire, fantastique -- more a description of some show or event or entertainment.
This is why I believe, reading the text, "excellent" is most apt.
This is how I see it -- hope it helps.
Jim
