The destination.

I am confused. Why is "à Lille" understood for the first clause but included in the second clause.

Le premier train part à sept heures moins le quart, et il arrive à Lille à huit heures.

The first train to Lille leaves at quarter to seven, and it arrives in Lille at eight.

Hi William,

It is not to repeat Lille twice which would not sound elegant enough in French.

You could also say -

"Le premier train pour Lille part à sept heures moins le quart et il arrive à huit heures."

Hope this helps!

It does not sound elegant in English either! Perhaps it should not be repeated in the sentence "The first train to Lille leaves at quarter to seven, and it arrives XXXXX at eight.

Bonjour William !

Indeed, it was a mistake here, as the first Lille wasn't included in the French answer.
Thanks to you, we've now removed the first Lille from the English to make the sentence more coherent :)
Merci beaucoup et bonne journée !
