How come, in the final sentence of this exercise, the past subjunctive is not used following "Rien que"? Instead, it was the passé composé.

Rien que quelques points de suture n'ont pu réparer. -- Nothing (that) a few stitches couldn't (weren't able to) fix.
No subjunctive required in this sentence. Note that "could" here is the past tense of "can".
