1. Can we use des salades mélangées instead of des salades compasées?
2. Can we use glaces instead glaçons? I looked it up on Google translate. Glaçons means ice cubes while glaces means simply ice. Wouldn't it be better to use the more general word ice?

1. Salades mélangées / salades composées:
"Salades mélangées" is rather clumsy in French. You would definitively write/say "salades composées" when you refer to a salad that is made of lettuce and other cold veg etc. Although it is now acceptable to say/write "salades mixtes".
2. Glaces / glaçons:
You wouldn't hear a person ask for ice to be put in his/her drink in French. "Glaçons" is correct here. "Glace" is more often than not used for "ice cream" even if Google told you otherwise. Although it can also translate to "ice" when referring to ice on a road for example.
