Peu importe où vous emmène votre Mazda,

Peu importe où vous emmène votre Mazda,

I gather this means "doesn't matter where your mazda takes you", but I don't understand the structure.   Here's another example-  "le pays oû vous emmène l'histoire"-    The place where the story takes you.   Is there a lesson on this somewhere?   thanks

Hi Diana,

'Peu importe' is better translated by 'no matter (what)' or 'regarless of'...

In the example you give, you might even say, "Wherever your Mazda may take you..."

In the sentence:

'Où vous emmène l'histoire' it is just an inversion of the subject,

(l'histoire) and verb (emmène), vous being the object .

Without the context it is hard to translate it accurately but take a look at the following example:

La situation où vous emmènent les faits... = The situation where facts take you...

might clarify matters for you.

Let me know...

thanks.   It is the inversion  of the subject that confuses me.   When and how can you invert the subject-  what are the rules?   Why not say La situation où les faits vous emmènent.

The sentence you propose is correct and orally this is the one you would use.

The inversion of subject and verb in statements is used in prose and poetry for stylistic effect.

It sounds more elegant.

Orally it might be used for pedantic effect...
