Pendent/Durant

Question

Tu es reste' enferme' ____________ une heure.  I put "pendent" which should have been "durant".  I have reviewed the lesson and can't find any distinction between pendent and durant.  What am I missing?

Mike - my wife (French) would have used 'pendant', but durant is also fine (less used in everyday speech). There is an error in spelling 'pendant' in your question - if this was also in the answer, maybe that gave you the 'cross' ?

Hi Mike,What are you missing?   It is the case that these two prepositions are synonyms, but there is a subtle difference.1) I understand that in the spoken language "pendant" is more often used and tends to suggest a situation where there may be an interruption to the action.2) Durant doesn't suggest any possible interruption to the action. Best wait to see what one of the Francophone ladies will comment?Jim
