Nous aimons nous promener sur l'avenue.
What does the second "nous" in the sentence mean?Is it like "I like 'our walking' on the avenue"?Can I say this way then? Nous aimons que nous promenons sur l'avenue.
Thanks.
Nous aimons nous promener sur l'avenue.
What does the second "nous" in the sentence mean?Is it like "I like 'our walking' on the avenue"?Hi Nil,
Just to add to Jim’s answer the expression 'aimer se promener' ( to like to walk) would be conjugated as such -
J’aime me promener
Tu aimes te promener
Elle/il/on aime se promener
Nous aimons nous promener
Vous aimez vous promener
Ils/elles aiment se promener
Hope this helps!
Hi Nil,
The verb is se promener -- to go for a walk in the sense of taking oneself for a walk rather than someone else.
So in the nous form -- nous nous promenons where the second nous is the direct object (oneself in my example above).
Hope this helps.
Alan (Jim)
Hey Nil,
In the sentence, "Nous aimons nous promener sur l'avenue, second 'nous' acts as an indirect pronoun replacing the indirect object in sentence.
Indirect pronouns are lui, leurs, nous, vous, ils , elles. The indirect objects are separated by a preposition from the subject.
Hope this was correct explanation.

"Nous aimons nous promener sur l'avenue"
The translation is "We like to walk ourselves on the avenue" "ourselves" being the direct object of the verb promener
This is why the second "reflexive nous" is the direct object (ourselves). There is no preposition between the verb and the reflexive pronoun nous.
Bonne journée
