Is there any logic to the gender of body parts or is it just random to be memorized?

Hi Marilyn,
As Chris says there are ways to guess the gender of words by looking for patterns and there will always be exceptions like for instance words ending in 'ette' are normally feminine apart from le squelette( skeleton) which is masculine. That is why it's a good idea to always memorize words with an article -
la tête = the head
le pied = the foot
la bouche = the mouth
etc.
