Je pense que baitment est accetable pour "building" Que pensez vous?
Asked 4 years ago
Hi Norma,
The word 'bâtiment' is too vague, 'immeuble' is sometimes translated as a block of flats, meaning the building where my flat is.
Hope this helps!

I get what you mean but I suppose as an english speaker you wouldn't tend to use building when talking about where you live. I know you shouldn't copy the format of another language but that's how I try and find a reason with it ...

J'ai vu un video recemment. Un immeuble est pour les apartements ou bureaux.
Un batiment est utilise pour les musees, une universite, mais pas pour les apartements ou bureaux.
J'espere que c'est presque correct!

Hi Anita, I wasn't answering as a totally knowledgeable French speaker. I had watched a Language City video that specifically talked about the differences in immeuble and batiment. He said that while either is correct, proper usage sounds best to the French ear. I want to be able to get fluent in the language. I have a long way to go!
In English, we do say 'apartment building.'
Language is ongoing and ever changing!
Thank you!
