I don’t understand why ‘prochain’ comes before ‘cours’ as it doesn’t seem to fit with the group of adjectives that come before the noun.

Hi Helen,

The adjective prochain can be placed either before or after the noun.

Before the noun, the meaning is "the following" as in a sequence.

After the noun, "next" as in next week.

Now,  the cours or lessons/classes are in a sequence of those events, so this is why "prochain" is appearing before the noun (cours etc).

Hope this helps,

Bonne continuation

Jim

No tutor ever explained this before!  Thanks.

I was looking for a lesson on kwiziq on this topic but I couldn't find one. So here's on offsite link that explains the difference of prochain going before or after the noun: https://french.stackexchange.com/questions/2817/word-order-with-prochaine-before-or-after-noun-rules

On the other hand, I did find a lesson on the very same issue but with dernier: Prochain/Dernier = Next/Last + [durations] in French

I don’t understand why ‘prochain’ comes before ‘cours’ as it doesn’t seem to fit with the group of adjectives that come before the noun.
