According to the lesson on this subject 'se faire' + infinitive is used with a reflexive verb and 'faire' + infinitive when it's not reflexive so I'm confused.

faire de nouvelles sandales is not reflexive
This question relates to:French lesson "Faire + [infinitive] = to have something done in French (Causative)"

Je fais de nouvelles sandales -- I am making new sandals. This is probably not what you mean. If you want to say that you have new sandals made for yourself, you'd say:
je me fais faire de nouvelles sandales.
It becomes reflexive because you are having the sandals made for yourself. The -self part in English already points to the reflexive meaning.
