Dear team
I was wondering if I could use "en plaçant or mettant" instead of "en posant" .
Perhaps "en posant" is used in a physical sense ?
Thank you again for all your help !

Hi Una,
The two possibilities given are -
en posant
en mettant
for
by putting
We wouldn't use 'en plaçant' as it means to place in a specific place or order.
She is just putting a dish of milk the foot of the tree, not in a very specific place or order, so mettre ( to put) or poser ( to put down) is best here.
I hope this helps!
