écouter à vs. écouter de?

Why is the sentence fragment "J'écoute du Beethoven" and not "J'écoute à Beethoven"? When would someone use 'écouter à' vs 'écouter de'?

Hi Cameron,

The verb écouter is not followed by à or de. It is simply -

écouter quelque chose

In the example, the exercise gives you two possibilities -

j'écoute du Beethoven = I listen to some Beethoven

J'écoute Beethoven = I listen to Beethoven

I hope this helps!
