Hi Rebelorieda and Andrew,
You cannot say ‘des’ here as it would be ‘of the friends’.
It is simply ‘un couple d’amis’.

Could you please explain why the plural is "couple d'amis" instead of "couple des amis"? (I have the same question as the original poster). Thank you. Is it possibly because "un couple" is itself singular?
