Conjugation of "éclore?"

How is this verb conjugated?  There is a phrase in the vocabulary lesson sent out today that contains the phrase:  Je regarde les bourgeons éclore...

This doesn't look like the normal conjugation for a -re verb.  Please advise!  Thank you.

Hi Laura,

The verb 'éclore' ( to bloom/to hatch) is an odd one and it is the infinitive form.

Here is a link to the conjugation of this verb -

https://bescherelletamere.fr/conjugaison/verbe-eclore

Hope this helps!

It's actually the infinitive. That's how they say it in French. Like for example "Je regarde les enfants manger" for "I'm watching the children eat" or "J'entends la pluie tomber" for "I hear the rain falling"

Cécile, the link you provided doesn't have a present indicative for nous and vous. Why is that?

Hi Stephanie,

Good question!

Éclore is part of those verbs said to be defective (défectifs), meaning that they don't have the full range of forms or tenses as most verbs. I am sending you another link to what these verbs are if you are interested -

My Bescherelle says that in the case of éclore it is mostly used in the 3rd person.
