I used ‘en dessous de (la table)’ . Can someone explain why that is wrong?

Hi Jane,
It just sounds weird in French.
To say 'to hide under the table', we would use plain old 'sous' as 'en dessous de' is more 'below' rather than 'under' and it sounds as though he is under the legs too!
You might use the expression for -
La température est en dessous de 2 degrés aujourd'hui = The temperature is below 2 C today
Les Dupont vivent en dessous de nous= The Duponds live below us
Hope this helps!
