Bonjour, Aurélie. I have a question.
Why is it "tu as minci depuis l'année dernière" and not "tu mincis.."? In another lesson, it says that when using depuis the must be in the present tense. Merci beaucoup pour vos leçons. ^^
This question relates to:French lesson "Conjugate regular -ir verbs (+ avoir) in the compound past in French (Le Passé Composé)"

Bonjour Melvin,
Here you use Le Passé Composé as the action of losing weight is completely over by the time the speaker notices it. In English, you'd say "You lost weight since last year.".
If I said "Tu mincis depuis l'année dernière.", it would sound as if she's still losing weight as we speak, in a weird way (i.e. You've been losing weight since last year.)...
Le Présent is used to translate the Present Perfect (have + -ED).
I hope that's helpful!
À bientôt !
