Besoin de

Not really related to the lesson at hand, but in the example, isn’t besoin supposed to be followed by de?

Les chaussures dont tu as besoin sont dans le placard

dont is a relative pronoun that can stand in for de if it was at the end of the phrase or clause.

Since you can't end a clause with a preposition (Les chaussures que tu as besoin de is incorrect) , the pronoun dont is used.

For example:
Je parle de cet homme.
Voilà cet homme dont je parle.
