The transcription has "j'avais beaucoup de mal à parler" - shouldn't it be "du" instead of "de", going by the lesson cited in the exercise? At any rate, it sounded like "du" to me. Thank you.

This is a case of the partitive article. Just as you would say: Je voudrais de l'eau versus je vourdrais un verre d'eau (no partitive article because of the quantity specification un verre).
J'ai du mal à parler.
J'ai beaucoup de mal à parler.(No partitive article because of beaucoup)
