Aussi -- que vs Autant --que

I would be grateful for a clarification of the following:

In a sentence such as: Frank writes fast but Olivier writes as fast as him. "Frank écrit vite mais Olivier écrit ________ lui": why do we use the adjectival "aussi vite que "instead of the adverb "autant vite que"?

Kalpana, I agree with you that ‘vite’’ is mistakenly interpreted as adjectival in this example (presented in the lesson on adjectival comparisons), when it is adverbial - it clearly modifies the verb “écrire”. However, it would still be ‘aussi que’, which is used in comparisons of both adjectival and adverbial modifiers.

The comparative ‘autant que’ is used when verbs are being compared. (Autant de … que for nouns)
