Bonjour Mary Anne,
French adjectives are usually placed after the nouns. However, adjectives expressing a judgment, an opinion, which are generally placed after the noun, can also be placed before the noun, such as ‘excellent’ or ‘délicieux’. In this instance, they take on a more subjective meaning, revealing the opinion of the person talking, for example.
un homme chic = an elegant man
un chic type = a nice guy
un gâteau excellent = an excellent cake
une excellente idée = a wonderful idea
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !
