In ‘ Quand ouvre-t-on les cadeaux? ‘ When do we open the presents?

where does the ‘t’ come from?

Bonjour Alan,

As Jim and Chris both replied, it is used to make the sentence easier to pronounce.

See link below: forming-questions-by-inverting-in-the-present-tense-il-elle-on-forms

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

Hi Alan,

It's there to allow easier "verbal flow" between the two vowels e - o.

The -t- is there for phonetic reasons only. No grammatical content.

Try saying ouvre-on and the ouvre-t-on.. it is a way of separating the two vowels.. in English we would use a glottal stop... The French just pronounce it.
