Can anyone explain to me why there is a "ne" in the following sentences:

"Je crains que vous ne conduisiez trop vite" translated in the quiz as "I fear that you drive too fast."

"Les feuilles dorées auront tombé avant que nous n'arrivions" translated in the quiz as "The golden leaves will have fallen before we arrive."

I find the use of the "X" here somewhat confusing. Is it standing in for "any consonant"? Or rather, any consonant except for "t" and "l"? If so, why does the first example show "compléter" as an example of a "eXer" verb? There seem to be two other ways of expressing this "any consonant" stand in on this site. I find "(-)" is used in some lessons, and "*" is used in others. None of the three are explained anywhere that I could find.

This seems needlessly confusing to me.

I just discovered this site and am very impressed otherwise.

How would you say  " in my last summer vacations i.........."

Like everyone else, I find this lesson very confusing, and I think it is because it's using a very poor example of when to use articles. I believe the translation is incorrect. 

Je n'aime ni le fromage ni le lait.
I like neither cheese nor milk.

If this example is talking about specific cheese and specific milk, then the English translation should be, "I like neither the cheese nor the milk." But that is not what you have here. The translation you give is general, not specific. It really makes the whole lesson contradictory and confusing.

I answered tu n'as pas habilité ici depuis longtemps as per the explanation leçon un négatif sentence i should use passé composé

But  kwiziq is saying right answer is 

Tu n'habites pas ici depuis longtemps

Please explain

why not:

Ils l'ont dessinés eux-mêmes.

how does one say is it far or is london far from here or how do i get there?
