When I write “Il est dix heures” as one of the accepted responses to a specific request to translate precisely ten o’ clock in the evening, it’s marked as incorrect. Yet, elsewhere, it’s stated as an acceptable response to a person who knows you are talking about the evening rather than the morning. So, it should be marked as correct along with the other two responses. In my opinion! :-)
Could someone remind why the subjunctive (j'aie) is used in this context. Thanks
Hello! I was wondering how to translate an inversion from English into French. For example, the English 'I left early, so bad was the party'. Could you use an inversion and say 'Je suis parti tôt, si mauvaise était la fête'? Or something more like 'Je suis parti tôt, tant la fête était mauvaise'.
Thank you very much
Could you help me find a reference to understanding the use of prepositions before infinitives (I understand prepositions after).
Also, I read the question as 'after months of wearing', but can à be used for the preposition 'of'?
Bonjour, J'ai a entendu "cinquantaine", pas "cinquante". Ai-je raison ? - Allison
Should the line in the lesson stating:
pires / mauvais / mauvaises -> les pires / les plus mauvais / les plus mauvaises
Instead be stated as:
mauvais / mauvaises -> pires / plus mauvais / plus mauvaises -> les pires / les plus mauvais / les plus mauvaises
elle entre ____. maison ils vont ____ cafe
What to do if there is only a noun and not a pronoun.
Can someone at least point me to a detailed explanation of when to use Tu. I am 74 and I have assumed nobody will tutoyer me automatically. I would prefer not to tutoyer someone else merely for some hierarchical reason, so I am focusing on the vous form (as does Pimsleur, which I am also using). But, if I go to a French Meet Up in America, will everyone be using Tu? And what about visiting Guadeloupe?
Hi, in “si bien que nous avons foncé à l'hôpital.” why did “bien que” not trigger a subjunctive? E.g. “si bien que nous ayons foncé à l'hôpital.” UPDATE: I see that “si bien que” means “so much so that” and doesn’t trigger a subjunctive. I was incorrectly parsing this as “bien que” meaning “although”.
