Why is the superlative in the plural, when the subject is singular?

The English sentence is: I'd never seen that, it was like in a horror movie!
I must have missed the rule that explains the use of conditional past in French. Can you enlighten me please.

I have just answered the question below incorrectly. My understanding was that the second part of the statement was conditional present but your answer below shows (I think) the imparfait of venir? What am I not getting?
In the correction list offered, I was surprised to see "Le dimanche".
Is there a particular reason why this is correct here since the text implies only the one Sunday, not all Sundays?
Why not "était" instead of "a été" ?

Tom did not stop saying pardon, or Tom ne arréterait pas de dire pardon, Tom would not stop saying pardon.
I find these tenses very confusing,
Advised by Cecile: "But the construction you suggest ending with a pronoun might be used by a very young French child but isn't correct French."
I have never seen it so pointedly stated anywhere. Seems to me once you 'learn' that faux pas you are halfway through the struggles of using pronouns....where to put them.
I find this advice so clarifying. I may be making too much of a big deal abut it...but it hit me like a lightbulb.
Do you think, modified a little, it is advisable to adopt as rote? Would it hold up universally enough.
Do not put your object pronouns at the end of a sentence (after the verb) UNLESS it is the STRESS VERSION OF THE PRONOUN.
In the sentence J'adore la vie à la montagne, I translate that as I love the life in the mountains. I was wondering why it isn't J’adore la vie dans les montagnes. Could anyone explain please?
