I am looking at this sentence - 'Toi qui me faisais sauter sur tes genoux pendant des heures sans que je n'aie jamais l'impression de t'ennuyer' - and wondering about the n' before the jamais. He is saying 'without me ever feeling', not 'without me never feeling'.
J'ai vu recemment la chanson avec video 'Sacre Charlemagne' sur YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AH-a22xge-c (1964). Ca me semblait une chanson charmante mais aussi un peu bizarre!
(Desole, mon ordinateur ne fait pas les accents)
As stated in the lesson if you are emphasizing something in the past "en train de" can be used. Therefore if you are emphasizing "Henri was having a nap when his boss came in "
"Henri était en train de faire une sieste ..." should be acceptable
This was possibly the most difficult C1 exercise that I have tackled. Nevertheless, I tried it. I scored myself at 40 out of 70. It simply points out how far I have to go. Thanks for the challenge.
Mes parents ont toujours été là pour moi. Can you help me understand why PC was used and not Imparfait? To me, it seems like a statement of actions that were ongoing or repeated in the past over an undefined period. Merci pour vos conseils !
For a change of pace I decided to use seulement instead of ne...que for the following sentence:
"J'ai eu deux chats." . Write "I had only two cats.": ________ deux chats. My answer J'ai au seulement deux chats... was marked wrong! I understand Chris' response to another use that the focus of the exercise in ne que..but in many of the tests (choose ALL the correct answers) they had both the 'seulement' version and the 'ne que' version as GOOD answers.
Unless my answer has an error which I am overlooking ,or there is a point of grammar why seulement is unacceptable here, I would like to suggest a revision of the test marking to accept seulement.
There may be sound reason why learning to use seulement is beneficial, even if 'ne que' is considered better in formal writing. Based on further reading, I have found that SEULEMENT ALSO can VARY IN PLACEMENT ..to differently focus the restriction. Rules for seulement: Cannot be placed BEFORE the conjugated auxiliary/ does not have to be placed (unlike many adverbs) IMMEDIEATELY after the conjugated verb/can be placed just like the 'que' before the 'target word ' being restricted.
So it seems : I had ONLY two cats= je n'ai eu que deux chats OR J'ai eu seulement deux chats.
I ONLY had two cats == Je n'ai qu'eu deux chats or J'ai seulement eu deux chats.
As usual I stand ready to be corrected!
Hi
Why is it 'aux prix' and not 'au prix'. Isn't prix singular?
Thanks
Megan
Elle m'a répondu- I take that the past participle here is not feminine because the me (which refers to the female narrator) is an indirect object?
Kind regards,
Kevin
