In France, the festive season is an important time to share a good meal with our loved ones. Families and friends get together on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day too. The meal usually starts with seafood like oysters that we eat with some lemon juice. Another popular starter [US: first course] is smoked salmon with blinis, which are little buckwheat flour pancakes. As a main course, there is the traditional roasted turkey with chestnuts, but others prefer a capon, served with truffles for example. In the South of France, people enjoy the tradition of the thirteen desserts of Christmas, which represent the twelve Apostles and Jesus. What about you? What are your traditional Christmas dishes?
